Country: Nairobi, Kenya
Sector: Health, Urban Poverty
Background:
The client aimed to map child nutrition outcomes and food insecurity trends in Nairobi’s informal settlements.
Prior data was fragmented and outdated, and localized insights were needed to shape targeted health interventions.
Approach:
We conducted 1,200 household surveys across three major slum areas. Enumerators used tablet-based tools with GPS tagging to map food sources and malnutrition hotspots. Anthropometric measurements were also taken for children under five.
Impact:
The mapping informed the placement of new nutrition clinics and community feeding points. It also supported a local government proposal to regulate school snack vendors in high-risk zones.
